Hello Troop 26 Scouts and Parents.
It's almost February already, tell me it's not so! The year is off to a flying start. I type this after having just returned from our trip to the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, Kansas. What a fantastic trip!!! For those of you who were unable to attend, you need to mark this one on your calendar for next year. You will not be disappointed. The Cosmosphere was amazing. We had the opportunity to earn the robotics merit badge by creating robots and then programing them to escape from boxes and move things around. If you find yourself bored this spring break, you might want to plan a
day trip to the Cosmosphere and do some exploring on your own. You can
check out their website at http://www.cosmo.org/. After our time at the Cosmosphere, we headed to the local roller skating rink where we had the chance to earn the skating merit badge and had a ton of fun in the process.
Troop 26 kicked off the New Year with a huge service project. Our regular January campout was not just an ordinary campout. Instead, we had the honor to participate in a conservation project at Greenleaf State Park. We were able to repair 16 miles of trail used by many hikers and mountain bikers. In doing so, the troop not only carried out much needed repairs, but also had the opportunity to earn the William T. Hornaday Award ( http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Awards/HornadayAwards.aspx ). This is an award given to any troop that can carry out a conservation service project with 60% of the troop in attendance. Many of you answered the call and the turn out for this project was outstanding. I don't the know the final numbers yet but, it was great to have so many scouts present.
Looking ahead to the future, our next campout is scheduled for February 10-12th. Also, the next uniform exchange will be on February 13th. If you are in
need of shorts, pants, or uniforms be sure to check here first. Lastly, I want to remind everyone that we have a Court of Honor coming up on March 5th. If you are planning to advance at this Court of Honor, please be sure that you complete your Scout Master Conference and Board of Review as quickly as possible.
Looking even further ahead, it is never too early to start thinking about summer camp, details should be coming very soon so keep your eyes and ears open.
Until next time, do a good turn daily and always BE PREPARED.
