William “Bill” Edward Baumgartner avidly supported the Boy Scouts of America, volunteering over 25 years with Troop 26 and the local District and Council. He was a Woodbadge trained scouter who was awarded the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for excellence in Scouting. Bill was a longtime employee of Texaco. Bill had two sons Edward (Troop 26 Eagle scout in 1981), son Joseph “Joey” (Troop 26 Eagle scout in 1982 and current assistant scoutmaster). Bill’s three grandsons – Alex, Owen, and Evan are currently or will soon be Troop 26 scouts.
Bill also volunteered for the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and served as Auxiliary President. Visitation 4 – 6:30 pm Wednesday, January 4, followed by Rosary service at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Southwood Chapel. Funeral service to be held Thursday, January 5 at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church. Memorial donations to the Boy Scouts of America, 4295 South Garnett Road, Tulsa, OK 74146. Bill was born on April 16, 1937 in Linn, MO and graduated from De Le Salle Academy in Kansas City, MO. His parents were Annabelle and Harold Baumgartner. He lived in Tulsa, OK for 30 years with his wife Patricia, attending St. Pius X and St. Bernard Catholic Churches. He died at the age of 74, on Saturday, December 31, 2011.
For many years, Bill was responsible for maintaining the troop finances, and was instrumental in helping the troop achieve unprecedented growth. He is well loved and remembered by all those lives he touched while he served the troop. To honor Bill, in the summer of 2013, the scouts of Troop 26 named one of the Jamboree charter buses the “Baumgartner”.
